Re: SdKfz 251/1 in detail
The inclusion of the manual could only make this a better visual reference for the 251/1 Ausf. D.
Despite certain questions that need to be raised when sourcing any kind of information from a restored vehicle, the fundamental details still exist and, as is the case in every WWP release, a considerable amount of effort is made to retain these details.
With a consistent standard of print and image quality throughout, it's a fantastic presentation of most stages of the restoration of this vehicle. It covers every significant detail of the vehicle in detail along with the nice inclusion of a section on the OT-810 at the rear. Although the later Czech version holds little interest for me, it's a nice addition to provide the reader with a comparison if for nothing other than interest's sake. I certainly hope that if and when they do a volume on the 250 Ausf B, they include a section on the post war Skoda version as well.
I think anyone looking to form a reference base on a vehicle should begin with looking at what WWP offers if it's covered.
There are no period photos, but I don't feel this reduces the quality of the book in any way. They've concentrated on the vehicle alone and as a result have provided the reader with everything they should've expected from it.
Another major thing I've noticed the Polish publishers include that noone else appears to, is gratification to the museums involved. There's no doubt that without them and the private collectors who share their collections, we wouldn't have a shadow of what's made available to us today.
