SPW Radio connections

Post  091978 on Thu Apr 10, 2008 12:42 am

I have been researching German radios used in their SPW for several years now, and with help from several sources I think I can help with the connections on the following sets: Fu5, Fu8, Fu7, Fu15 and Fu16.
I am still working on the Fu11and Fu12. I am no expert so if you have something to add please do.
I will start with the Fu5 and over the next few weeks I will add the others.
The Fu5 is made up of the 10 W.S.C transmitter and the Ukw.E.e receiver.

The receiver has two vertical rectangular ports on the lower left hand corner these are for the headphones (fernhorer). On the lower right hand corner there is a round port this is the power inlet from the E.U.a power transformer. On the upper right corner are two horizontal ports the top one is labeled G and Ant. the lower one is labeled z.Sender both of these are connected to the transmitter’s upper left hand ports. The top one is labeled
Ant.Empf.G and the lower z.Empf

The 10 W.S.c has the additional connections, the lower left hand corner has two vertical ports the left one is for the microphone and the right one is for the Morse key (taste). On the lower right is the round power inlet port from the U10a power transformer. On the upper right corner is a horizontal port which is labeled G Ant. this is where the antenna cable is connected. It goes to two small antenna relay boxes before it goes to the antenna base. There is a good diagram of this on page 183 of the book German Radio Sets 1935 to 1945 (GRS).It is of the Fu16 radio set which is very similar to the Fu5 set. There are also schematics of other radio sets which also show these to boxes. Which I think are represented in the Dragon 251/6 as items F9.
The GRS book is most helpful in that it provides clear pictures of the different radio components and a list of the translations of the abbreviations labeled on the sets.
I hope this is some help to those who want to wire up radios on their kits.

Fu.8

Hi Noe,
I took the liberty of copying your post at ML and putting it here too. Hope you don't mind!

Fu8 radio connections
The Fu8 radio was made up of the Mw.E.c receiver and the 30 W.S.a transmitter. The connections on the receiver are as follows: at the lower left hand corner there is a round port which is the power inlet from the EUb dynamotor. Just to the right of the power inlet are the two ports for the headphones. At the lower right hand corner there is a vertical port labeled z.Sender, this goes to the horizontal port on the upper left hand corner of the transmitter labeled z.Empf.
On the upper right hand corner of the Mw.E.c are the two round ports for the antenna connections, one above the other, the top is labeled AII and the bottom labeled AI. The bottom antenna port is connected to the 30 W.S.a at a port just under the meter at the upper left hand corner; the port is labeled Ant. Empf. If an additional Mw.E.c is
used as an Fu 4 set like in the Dragon 250/3 and 250/5 kits. The top antenna connection labeled AII on the receiver on the left would go to the AII port on the receiver on the right. The only other connections used on the second receiver are the power inlet and headphone ports.
The additional connections on the 30W.S.a are the two vertical ports on the lower left hand corner, the one on the left is for the Morse key and the one on the right is for the microphone.
At the lower right corner is the power connection from the 30b dynamotor. At the upper right corner is the antenna connection. On the left side below the connection labeled Ant. Empf is the round port for the ground connection it is labeled G.
A good clear photo of the Fu8 and Fu4 combination can be found in the new Panzer Tracts book No. 15-1 on the 250 halftracks page 15-1-30.
